MEDIA ADVISORY: CAP: Nat’l Chief Lavallee to meet with Off-Reserve Aboriginal Peoples in Sudbury, Ontario on Friday, March 14th: National Grassroots Engagement Tour

Chief-Offical -Photo_2012_JpgWeb_200_300(Ottawa) March 13, 2014 — National Chief, Betty Ann Lavallée, CD., (Ret’d) of the Congress of Aboriginal Peoples (CAP, Congress), will be in Sudbury, Ontario  as part of a National Grassroots Engagement Tour to discuss issues important to off-reserve Aboriginal Peoples.  Accompanying National Chief Lavallée will be National Vice-Chief, Ron Swain.

Sudbury is one of a number of stops that are being held in regions throughout the country.  The goal of the cross-country tour is to hear directly from off-reserve Aboriginal Peoples, organizations and provincial, municipal and federal officials.  To date, the National Chief has held sessions in Fredericton, NB; Vancouver, BC; Whitehorse, Yukon; Yellowknife, NWT; Goose Bay, Labrador; Edmonton, Alberta; and Regina, Saskatchewan. The Winnipeg, MB session is being held this evening, Thursday, March 13, followed by Sudbury, Ontario on Friday, March 14, 2014.

It will also present an opportunity to those in attendance to hear from National Chief Lavallée about the Congress’ mandate, policy initiatives, current issues, programs and services.  Everyone is welcome to attend.  A light snack will be provided to participants.

Since 1971, the Congress of Aboriginal Peoples (formerly known as the Native Council of Canada) has been the National Representative Organization and the National Voice for the constituency and their Affiliate Organizations making up the Congress’ family of advocates for the off-reserve, non-Status, and Status Indians, Métis and Southern Inuit living in urban, rural remote and isolated areas throughout  Canada.  Today, over 75% of the Aboriginal Peoples of Canada live off-reserve.
